No matter what the circumstances there is usually always a little bit of emotion in the air on the final day of the domestic cricket season and there was plenty of it on show at Burndennett on Saturday. The match itself has been done to death already but there are a few asides that I feel are worthy of a mention both from the weekend and indeed the season as a whole.

Firstly, and most obviously, congratulations to Eglinton and to skipper Karl O'Doherty in particular. His team won all 12 of their league matches this season and regardless of the rights or wrongs of the play-off route they will take their place in next season's new-look Premier League totally on merit. Karl is a thoroughly unassuming lad and there was absolutely nothing hidden on the many occasions I interviewed him during the season which obviously makes the job a lot easier and the articles more accurate.

The villagers have a few good young players who have broken into the senior side this year including Jamie Millar, Ross Allen and Andy Pierce and a couple of others who have benefited from a bit longer in the senior ranks in Chris Pierce and Simon Olphert.

Add in Johnny Gardiner, Andy Christie, sign a solid professional, and keep hold of Smyth and Wylie and there's a side that will fancy their chances of keeping afloat in the top flight. Over in the other corner it was a very different picture as Gordon Montgomery came to terms with relegation after a decade in Division 1.

"Goofer" is very much a heart-on-the-sleeve captain and this will have hurt him no end not least because they did really well in accumulating 16 points to start with. Not being able to put a full strength team out regularly enough has been a big part of their downfall but this is a really crunch winter on Bonds Street now.

Commitment is key and while they seem set to lose Silva, those left will have to decide what direction the club needs to go over the next couple of years. The much maligned Glendermott support was magnanimous in defeat and here's hoping they hang around now that the Bonds Street outfit needs them most. I have no doubt we haven't seen the last of them and if the current vibe coming out of the Rectory is anything to go by they could well do what they did the last time they were relegated and bounce straight back.

Away from the play off a remarkable feat was realised at the Holm on Sunday when Donemana under-15's won their all-Ireland category with a thumping verdict over Pembroke. It wasn't the fact that the Tyrone side beat a quality Leinster outfit - Donemana have made a habit of winning titles at all levels, nor was it that they successfully chased down a target 116 runs without losing a single wicket.

Believe it or not this group of young men have now won 2 under-11 titles, 2 under 13 titles and completed the set at the weekend with their second under-15 crown. Six years competing in under-age Inter-Provincial cricket and never lost a match- now that is something. And yet if you believe all you read there are those outside the North West still not prepared to recognise that level of dominance. Take a bow lads; no amount of papering over those stats will change them.

Finally this week a big thank you to the people we wouldn't be able to provide any service without and that is our fantastic scorers. You are probably aware that we tried a Facebook page to go along with Alistair and Barry's twitter service this season and although it worked reasonably well in parts, there was much, much more work involved than I had imagined.

As well as that, those who availed of the service became, how you say, a little demanding, especially if their team was in a close match. The idea was to do away with text updates but that didn't happen either as not everyone uses Facebook or Twitter. This year's record was 3 minutes between requests for updates from one concerned supporter!! That's not even enough time to bowl an over.

Anyway, on their behalf, and indeed mine, many thanks to Lexie, Reggie, Jill, Tommy, Terence, Sadie, Darren, Noel, Richard and Laura, Mary, Pat, Kevin, Leanne, Simon, Cheryl and Gail, and anyone else I may have forgotten.
