THE season outside first-class cricket limped into mid-September, although international calls meant few Irish players were there for the last rites.

MCC Young Cricketers had a short tour to the west country, playing two three-day games against Gloucestershire 2nd XI. The almost-forgotten man Graeme McCarter made 40 not out for the county at Bristol, also taking 2-37, while Shane Getkate made 37 and 57 for MCCYC at Bath but did not bowl.

McCarter played a couple more games in the West of England Premier League Division Two, helping Thornbury into 5th place. Against Ilminster he returned 10-3-18-2, and made 5, adding 8 and 1-13 against Cheltenham.

Getkate was in club action too, for Sunbury, making 58 against Guilford as they finished 4th in the Surrey Premier League, two places ahead of Sonny Cott’s Leatherlead.

The Ireland U17 player made 4 runs in each of his late season games against Sutton and Weybridge.
