DONEMANA (League position 4th; Senior Cup 2nd round)

Given the talent at their disposal, it was in many ways a disappointing season for Donemana, who needed a strong finish to end up fourth in the Premiership, while never getting going in any of the major cup competitions. They did collect the Sperrin Springs in a bowl-out but that was scant consolation.

They once again struggled to get their best side onto the park due to a combination of injury and availability, while their professional woes of recent times continued. Their inspirational talisman Andy McBrine only played eight games across all competitions, and it’s no surprise they were a much different proposition when he was in action.

They only had three batsmen in the top 50 North West aggregates with Levi Dougherty’s 506 runs at 33.73 – including five fifties – their best effort in 34th place. William McClintock made 481 at 32.57 (four 50s), while DJ Dougherty established his presence in the top order making 394 at 21.89.

The bowling wasn’t much better with the retiring Jordan McGonigle’s haul of 29 wickets at 16.93 – including the season’s best figures of 6 for 15 – seeing him finish 16th. William McBrine ended the year strongly with two five-wicket hauls on his way to 22 wickets at 14.77, while veteran Gary Neely claimed 19 scalps at 13.37.

Below senior level, their second side won the cup as well as the Ulster Plate, while the thirds also lifted the cup. There are signs of a resurgent youth production line, Raymond Curry has joined from Bonds Glen, and if they can acquire a quality overseas player over the winter then Donemana could once again be a major force in the new look top flight in 2024.
