Eglinton have beaten off the challenge of a host of NW sides to capture the signing of Ireland Under 19 international Liam Doherty.

Doherty is an Irish passport holding South African who represented Ireland at the U19 World Cup in the West Indies last year.

An all-rounder, he bowls right-arm medium pace as well as batting in the middle-order.

“I’m obviously from South Africa but back home I represented free state at the national weeks and also made the U19 franchise side for the knights which was called cubs," Doherty told the Eglinton Facebook Page.

"During the World Cup, I met and became firm friends with Robbie Millar and am looking forward to renewing that friendship. I'm also really excited at the prospect of working with Mike Erlank who I know very well from domestic cricket in South Africa."

The North West season gets underway in five weeks on Saturday April 29th.
