George Dockrell and Barry McCarthy are the big winners in the new Cricket Ireland contracts with both given two-year deals as Ireland prepare for their busiest ever period of action.

When the One-day international squad leaves for Bangladesh on Saturday it is the start of a 140-day period when Ireland Men will be touring or in camp for 115 of those days. As a result, no fewer than 27 player have been given contracts – 14 of them on multi-year contracts, seven on one-year contracts, one (Conor Olphert) on an education/retainer contract and five on casual (match) contracts).

The latter includes Lisburn’s Matthew Humphreys and Civil Service North’s Matthew Foster who hav both won their first senior call-ups on the upcoming tours to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka along with Zimbabwe Test player PJ Moor and Ross Adair who is, for now, is a T20 specialist.

Twelve of the players on multi-year deals will be in the second year of their two-year contracts, although Simi Singh and Neil Rock have much to do if they are to be retained next year, having missed out on selection this month.

Dockrell, who is forging a second career as a specialist batsman, 13 years after his debut as a left-arm spinner, and McCarthy were on one-year deals but their performances last year have been rewarded with contracts which take them up to February 2025.

James McCollum and Ben White stay on one-year contracts and are joined by four others who will be on their travels this month but although Tyrone Kane misses out , he also is given a one-year deal.

The other uncapped player included in the list is Pembroke leg spinner Gavin Hoey, who starred for Leinster Lightning in last year’s inter-provincials and he gets a match contract.
