There was sadness among the North West cricket fraternity with the news of the death of Reggie McCarron.

'Wee Reggie' was a long-time scorer in the region, and while primarily associated with Brigade, he also marked the book for Eglinton, Bready, Ardmore and Glendermott.

Reggie also scored regularly for the North West as well as internationally at European Youth tournaments in the region.

He also was a long standing member of the Derry Midweek League, serving as Secretary with distinction for more than a decade. He provided scores and scorecards for a range of media including the Derry Journal, Sunday Life and BBC Radio Foyle.

He was quizmaster at Brigade for many years, running the popular winter quiz to shorten the dark days.

"Reggie was a well known figure in sporting circles throughout the North West." said NW President Connie McAllister.

"He gave great service to Brigade, as well as the North West and other clubs.

"He will be sadly missed throughout the region.

"Condolences to his wife Lena, daughter Claire and the family circle."

A funeral service will take place in his late home 80 Primity Crescent, Newbuildings, on Wednesday 1st March 2023 at 12 noon, followed by burial in Altnagelvin Cemetery.
