Leinster clinched the inaugural Women’s Future series on NRR as they beat their Under 17 side by five wickets at The Boathole.

The teenagers were in dire straits at 50 for 6, with Ellie McGee, Isobel McCormack and Kimli McDonald each taking two wickets apiece.

Alice Tector top-scored for the second day running making 43, adding 42 for the 7th wicket with skipper Freya Sargent (20).

A final total of 128 looked well under-par and Leinster ensured the trophy with a solid batting chase.

Siuin Woods (30) and skipper Christine Coulter-Reilly (14) shared an opening stand of 52, and despite two wickets for Aisling Beggs, Tess Maritz (28*) and double figure scores from Maria Kerrison (11) and Ellie McGee (12*) sealed the five-wicket win in the 30th over.

The closest game of the week saw the NCU clinch second spot in the tournament as they edged out the North West by four runs and condemn the hosts to the wooden spoon.

Such was the fine margins between the four sides that all were in contention for the trophy well into the second innings on the final day.

Jemma Gillan (47) and Abbi Harrison (45) shared a second wicket stand of 66 to put the NCU in a strong position, but Cody Wallace’s six-wicket haul saw them collapse to 172 all out.

Zara Craig (2-11) took her competition tally to 11, the best by far of the week.

A third wicket stand of 115 between Mollie Devine (67) and skipper Craig (38) looked to be taking the hosts to victory at 139 for 2, before both fell in the space of four balls and as the pressure increased, the young hosts just failed to clinch the win, losing by four runs – three wickets for Jemma Gillan (3-26).
