AMY Hunter returns to the Ireland side for this month’s Tri-series in Bready against world champions Australia and Pakistan.

Hunter is one of four high-profile players who missed the recent series against South Africa, but along with captain Laura Delany and opening bowler Orla Prendergast, who have recovered from injury and Ava Canning, who like Hunter was doing exams, they are back for the six-match series, which starts on July 16.

The 16-year-old Instonians batter celebrated her call-up by hitting 71 from 48 balls for Dragons in their latest Super 20 Trophy match against Scorchers at Anglesea Road yesterday. She hit nine fours and two sixes in an opening stand of 132 with fellow international Leah Paul (65 not out), but after she was run out in the 16th over, a horrible collapse saw the Dragons finish on 157 for seven.

Scorchers skipper Gaby Lewis made light of that target, blasting an unbeaten 104 from 49 balls with 20 fours and a six as her side eased home with 25 balls and nine wickets to spare.

Meanwhile, the men’s inter-provincial Cup series ends today with Northern Knights taking on Leinster Lightning at Pembroke (10.45am) in what is a dead rubber after Munster Reds received the trophy on Friday at Eglinton, after their final game against North West Warriors was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Neither side had released their squads last night.
