South Africa battled back to beat Ireland Women by eight wickets at Sydney Parade to level the three-match T20I series at one apiece.

While the personnel on both sides were unchanged from Friday, it was an altogether much different South African side in terms of attitude, clearly annoyed at their slipshod efforts in the loss.

The tone was set by Shabnim Ismail, who started with a maiden, and took 1 for 13 in four overs of pace.

Ireland struggled for boundaries out of the powerplay, with Gaby Lewis (31) and Leah Paul hitting five of the eight they managed - Lewis also clearing the ropes once from a De Klerk full toss.

Mary Waldron made 24, but it took 31 balls, and the rate dropped after the powerplay - a final total of 106 for 7 never likely to be enough.

For some reason the Irish opted not to use Rachel Delaney in the opening over, and with Celeste Raack's over going for 13, South Africa, and Lara Goodall were up and running.

Goodall would go to make a half century from 38 balls (7 fours, 1 six) as she and Anneke Bosch (32*) shared a second wicket stand of 71 in just 11 overs.

Goodall was eventually bowled by Jane Maguire with six runs needed, which brought the loudest cheer of the day from the Pembroke Wall.

Arlene Kelly was the other successful bowler on a day where South Africa's power was clear for all to see.

The series decider takes place at the same venue on Wednesday, before the ODI series begins on Saturday at Clontarf.
