Gaby Lewis will captain Ireland Women in their six match series which gets under way next week in Dublin.

The 21 year-old YMCA batter follows in the footsteps of her father Alan, who captained Ireland 35 times.

Lewis gets the armband due to the absence of regular skipper Laura Delany, who is one of nine players unavailable for the series.

Others missing include regulars Orla Prendergast, Eimear Richardson, Rebecca Stokell, and Amy Hunter.

“While it’s unfortunate that we are without our skipper Laura Delany, it’s an absolute honour to be asked to captain Ireland for the first time.," said Lewis.

"he opportunity to take on one of the world’s leading sides is one I am relishing, and I know the squad is looking forward to the challenge.

"One of the benefits of a competitive domestic Super Series is that – even with up to nine players missing - we are still able to bring in a talented group of players as cover, showing that we are growing our player pool and developing our emerging talent in the right way.”

There are five potential debutants, including Irish passport holding New Zealander Arlene Kelly, and Bready all-rounder Alana Dalzell.
