Barry McCarthy was the Pembroke hero as he struck a last ball six to beat North County in Balrothery.

Chasing a target of 222, Pembroke's seventh wicket pair of McCarthy and Paul Lawson needed 11 from the final over, bowled by Abdul Ghaffar (3-62).

They managed a two, and four singles from the first five balls, reducing the equation to four for the tie and six for the win.

'BMac' opened the shoulders and cleared the ropes much to the delight of the Pembroke contingent.

Half centuries from Lorcan Tucker (75) and skipper Theo Lawson (54) laid the foundations for the chase as they shared a second wicket stand of 102.

McCarthy finished unbeaten on 42, while overseas professional Poonish Mehta chipped in with 25, in an impressive batting display, more so due to the ongoing absence of Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie, who seems to be limiting his domestic appearances for Pembroke.

Earlier, North County's 221 for 7 saw South African professional Malcolm Nofal top scoring with 57, clearing the ropes twice, as did skipper Eddie Richardson in his 42 - the pair adding 75 in 14 overs for the fourth wicket.

There were runs too for openers Niall McGovern (28) and Jamie Grassi (20), while John Mooney (25*) added runs late on.

Piyush Sharma (3-35) and Paul Lawson (2-42) the pick of the bowlers in a game that will live long in the memory.
