JOHN MOONEY continued his brilliant form on his return to domestic cricket as he helped North County claim a place in the semi-finals of the Lewis Hohn Williams Senior Cup in a comprehensive 177-run victory over Malahide at Balrothery on Saturday.

The 27-year-old all-rounder hit a century and took five wickets.

County were struggling somewhat at lunch at 124 for five, but a sixth-wicket partnership of 91 between Mooney and South African professional Francois van der Merwe helped them post 281, with Mooney eventually departing for 102, an innings that included 10 fours and two sixes.

Mooney then ran through Malahide's middle order, taking five wickets for 21 runs as they were bowled out for 104.

Jeremy Bray put a poor World Twenty20 campaign behind him as The Hills claimed their place in the last four with a seven-run victory over Railway Union at Milverton.

Bray top-scored with 68 as The Hills posted 265 for eight from 60 overs before taking three for 53 as Railway were bowled out for 258.

Defending champions Clontarf chased down a target of 227 with eight balls to spare against Merrion at Anglesea Road.

Pembroke will be the final side in the hat for tomorrow's semi-final draw (live on NEAR90.3fm at 1.30pm) after they beat Rush by 119 runs at Sydney Parade.
