Ireland's women cricketers took a hammering against West Indies

In the first game of their World Cup qualifying campaign Ireland lost to West Indies by 213 runs.

The Windies are favourites for the event but Ireland were disappointed at the heavy defeat. Batswomen Juliana Nero (100) teamed up with ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year Stafanie Taylor (107no) to put on an enormous stand of 204, and Ireland didn't take a wicket until the 38th over.

The Irish bowlers did well to restrict the score thereafter - and Isobel Joyce took the notable scalp of Taylor for her 50th ODI wicket - but a target of 277 was unimaginable.

It became impossible after Pearl Etienne blew away the top order, and Ireland reached the 20th over with the score 30-6.

Fourteen-year-old Kim Garth played well to make 24, but only Cecelia Joyce (13) made double figures in a score of 63 all out.
