A very strong Irish side was superior at all points and made a sorry show of I Zingari. The only weak link in the Irish side was JW Hynes who had come on as a substitute but was out of practice and was only a shadow of his former self. Kilkelly and Thompson had done little to deserve selection but both acquitted themselves well. This was RH Lambert's first match for Ireland. He had just turned 19 years of age and came on as a substitute for the Oxford blue, GFH Berkeley. Going in at number 10 young Lambert rattled up 51, hitting 10 fours. JH Nunn, although he had stated he would not recognise the authority of the Leinster Branch of the Irish Cricket Union, had been selected. However he withdrew. His long career was at an end. WD Hamilton also withdrew and the two substitutes for Nunn and Hamilton were L Hamilton and JW Hynes.

On the first day Ireland made 302 for 9. At lunch there was an hour's rather unnecessary delay for infinitesimal rain. After one over at the resumption it rained again and another start was not made until 4.40. In the circumstances 302 in a day was pretty rapid scoring. Lowry Hamilton and Browning began for Ireland to the bowling of Tylecote and Studd. At 10 Hamilton returned one to Tylecote and Lucius Gwynn came in. Browning scored very rapidly and 50 was up very quickly. Ridley came on to bowl and at 64 he had Browning caught on the rails for 42 (6 fours). JM Meldon joined Gwynn and the former hit at nearly every ball. At 97 Studd at mid-off caught Gwynn off Turner for a stylish 35. The captain, CL Johnson, was next and 100 came up in only 50 minutes. At 123 a fast straight ball from Tylecote bowled Meldon for a pugnacious 26. Three runs later Johnson was dropped but next ball was caught at mid-off for 15 - by Ridley off Tylecote. B Hamilton and Thompson were now together. Hamilton opened out while Thompson defended. At 160 Ridley tried lobs but was severely treated by Hamilton. Studd came back and bowled wildly but at 192 he had Hamilton caught at the wicket. 192-6-45. Lunch was then taken and the delays followed. Kilkelly got 2 runs from the one over possible between the delays. Eventually on resumption Kilkelly sent the 200 up and at 238 was bowled by Turner for 27 - made out of 36 added. At 237 Hynes was lbw for 0. R.H.Lambert was next and very well he played. The ninth wicket added 65 of which Lambert made 51, batting only 50 minutes and hitting 10 fours. He was eventually caught at mid-off off Tylecote and this ended play for the day. Thompson had played a great defensive innings for his team. He scored 46 not out while 176 were being added. I Zingari tried 7 bowlers of whom Tylecote with 4 for 50 was the best.

I Zingari batted very poorly on the second day. They were dismissed for 94 and following on made 101 to be defeated by an innings and 107 runs - another crushing defeat to add to the previous year's performance. In fairness it must be said they had the worst of the wicket but the Irish bowling and fielding were very good. A large crowd watched the play. The weather was dull in the morning but later on the sun shone. Four Irish bowlers shared the wickets. B Hamilton took 7; LH Gwynn took 5, A Penny 6 and CL Johnson 2. Of the I Zingari batsmen only CP Foley (17), HW Studd (25); HG Tylecote (10) and CP du Cane (13) reached double figures in the first innings. In the second innings DN Napier made 33, being badly missed off Hynes before he had scored, du Cane made 22 and Captain Hughes-Onslow made 13. The match finished at 4.45.
