Match Programme
West Indies had last been in Ireland in 2004 when Ireland had a famous win at Stormont. This present match fell foul of the dreadful 2007 weather in Ireland. A very good crowd saw only 17.2 overs bowled in two spells. West Indies lost the four match test series in England. Their bowling was poor and only Chanderpaul starred as a batsman. Five of the current team for Ireland played in the win in 2004, Botha, Johnston, McCallan, Morgan and N O'Brien.

Wet surrounds delayed the start until 12:17 p.m. and the match was reduced to 49 overs. This was Ireland's second match in the quadrangular tournament involving Holland, Scotland, West Indies and Ireland. Carroll and White were left out of the Irish 13 man squad. There was umpire criticism that the start was delayed as long as it was but there was a reluctance by the West Indies to play.

Porterfield and Morgan opened but after two overs and 5 runs rain came on again. Although the rain did not last very long there was still a long delay. Again there was quite some criticism of the umpires at the length of the delay, especially taking into account the relatively small amount of rain that had fallen.

Dinesh Ramdin celebrates catching William Porterfield
The fact that the sun was beaming down for a considerable amount of this delay did not help matters. An early lunch was taken and the match reduced to 33 overs when it resumed at 3 p.m. Two wickets fell in the first over after the resumption. Powell bowled a wide first ball but his fourth ball had Porterfield caught at the wicket. 6-1-4. Botha played on to his second ball, Powell's sixth. 6-2-0. Morgan was playing very well and in the next six overs hit three fours. N O'Brien also began with a four. Then in over 10, O'Brien ran down the pitch, had a wild swing and played on. 28-3-7.

K O'Brien was next and he had an exciting innings of 25 from 18 balls. In the over in which N O'Brien was out, Morgan got a five when an attempt was made to throw down the bowler's wicket, to which Morgan was running, but failed and resulted in four overthrows. Having scored two singles in over 10, K O'Brien hit two fours to square leg off Powell in over 11. In the 12th over, bowled by Rampaul, O'Brien hit the first two balls for a square six and a four to long on, the six bringing the 50 up. In the next over Morgan went down the pitch to Powell and hit an extra-cover four.

Fidel Edwards removes Kevin O'Brien
Edwards replaced Rampaul for over 14 with his 35 yard run-up. The first ball was a long hop which O'Brien hit to the wide mid-on boundary. Two balls later he emulated his brother. He had a wild swing and was bowled having hit 22 of his 25 runs in boundaries. 65-4-25. Cusack came in and watched Morgan hit Dwayne Smith (who had replaced Powell) for a six to long-on in over 15 and for a four to long leg in over 17. After two balls in over 18 there was more rain. It was very heavy this time and by the time it stopped there were pools on the ground. It was clear no more play would be possible. Morgan was 37 off 55 balls with a six and five fours. Cusack had scored 6 off 11 balls.

84 runs had come in the 17.2 overs and 15.4 overs remained. Three of the four West Indies bowlers had taken wickets, with Edwards the least expensive. The outcome of the match was two points to each side. Ireland were to play Scotland in the final match on the following day. To draw level with West Indies Ireland needed to beat Scotland and gain a bonus point. Then the tournament would be decided on Net Run Rate. Any other result between Ireland and Scotland would mean West Indies won the tournament
