NatWest Trophy, Headingley, 22 June 1993
Scorecard

Ireland did well in all phases of the game but could not match Yorkshire's run rate. The day was overcast and the pitch slow. Ireland brought in AN Nelson for the injured CJ Hoey and C McCrum for Doak to provide an extra bowler. Yorkshire had the West Indies captain, Richardson, and Test players in Moxon, Jarvis and Blakey.

Ireland sent Yorkshire in and Moxon and Metcalfe gave them a good start in what was the largest first wicket stand against Ireland in this competition. P McCrum and Moore began the bowling, followed by Harrison and Nelson for the first 27 overs. 50 came up in 14.1 overs and 100 in 29.1. Moxon was the first to reach his 50. Curry came on with the total on 85 and he got the first wicket at 132 in the 36th over - Moxon skying to Nelson at mid-on. 132-1-63. With Richardson now at the wicket the score at lunch was 134-1 in 37 overs. 150 came up in 40 overs, so the last 20 yielded 122 runs but Ireland did well to prevent the total reaching 300 or more.

C McCrum came on when the score was 105 and bowled his 12 overs in a row for 48 runs. When the total had reached 166 Metcalfe, then on 77, skied Harrison to P McCrum at long-on. 166-2-77, in the 44th over. Richardson, who found timing difficult, and Byas then scored exactly 100 in 15.2 overs. 200 came up in 52.3 overs and 250 only five overs later.

In the last over P McCrum took two wickets. Richardson (54 off 66 balls) skied to Curry at long off. He hit the only six of the innings and three fours. Off the last ball Byas was bowled for 54, scored in 56 balls with three fours. The last five overs yielded 51 but there were only 16 fours in the innings. Harrison and C McCrum went for four runs per over and P McCrum and Moore for 5 per over. The fielding was very good with Curry outstanding.

At 3:06 PM Cohen and Rea opened to Jarvis and Hartley. Seven overs were negotiated and then Rea (9) was caught at second slip off Hartley with the total on 18. Robinson and Gough were the next pair of bowlers. The next wicket did not fall to a bowler, rather Cohen (15) was run out with the total on 38 in the 18th over. Warke and Lewis saw 50 up after 22.2 overs.

White came on with the score on 47 and had Lewis (1) LBW in his first over, the 23rd. The total at tea was 60-3 in 25 overs, Warke 19, Curry 2. This pair then added 44 in 48 minutes. Hartley came back and in his first over back, the 36th, had Curry LBW. C McCrum was next and batted really well. The 150 came up in 49.2 overs and the pair added 75 in 66 minutes and 19 overs.

Warke went to 50 in 151 minutes. He was out in the 55th over - bowled by Jarvis for 64. His innings lasted 174 minutes, he faced 144 balls and he hit 6x4. It was a very good performance and his second 50 in Nat West matches. C McCrum reached 39 not out by the end and the last ball saw Ireland pass their previous highest Nat West total. McCrum got his runs off 70 deliveries. 12 fours were hit in the Ireland innings. It was a good performance which could have been improved in the last 20 overs by striking out a little more and being all out for say 220.
