A great deal of rain in the area made conditions very damp to start but Ireland won easily in the end. Ireland left out Bailey, Lewis, Hoey and the injured AN Nelson. Dekker, Crocker, and Dube had played in the Harare area matches against Ireland. Dube, together with Streak, opened the bowling to Warke and Dunlop. Streak bowled Warke (7) in the eighth over with the total on 14. Rea and Dunlop took it quietly against change bowlers Vaghmaria and Crocker who both bowled their 10 overs off the reel.

After 15 overs the score was 35 but the next four overs yielded a further 20. At 68, in the 23rd over, Vaghmaria bowled Dunlop for 33 and, next over, at 70, Rea was caught off Crocker for 30 - his highest score of the tour. Smyth and Harrison started very slowly. After 30 overs the score was 79. Smith was the fifth bowler and the most expensive. 100 came up in the 35th over and, after 40 overs, it had reached 121. The last 10 overs brought a further 57 and five more wickets fell. Harrison was caught for 34 off Smith with the total on 122. Patterson failed for once and was bowled in Smith's next over - the 43rd. 131-5-3. Nulty was run out in the 44th over.

In the next six overs Smyth, improvising well, and Jackson added 38. Then both were out in the final over - the only over bowled by Dekker. Jackson gave Vaghmaria his fourth catch of the innings. Smyth had done very well for his 41 and Jackson's 19 was invaluable.

McCrum and N Nelson bowled six overs each at which point Matabeleland were 23-1 - Nelson having Querl caught in his first over. Then came O'Reilly, who had bowled four overs on the tour two weeks previously. Here he bowled his 10 overs for 17 runs and two wickets and won a tie as the Man-of-the-Match. In his 10 overs there was one wide and no no-balls. When his stint was over the score was 65-5 of 31 overs. Dekker mishooked his third ball and skied to Jackson. Crocker was run out in O'Reilly's second over and he yorked Van Rensburg in his sixth over. The score was now 52-4. Harrison chipped in by bowling Blatch for 27 in his second over with the total on 58. Ranchod and the youthful Streak then put on 31 and Streak hit Dunlop for a six. McCrum came back and Ranchod was run out with the total on 89 and Smith bowled next ball. Another run out, by Nelson, saw Streak (23) out at 90 in the next over. Vaghmaria and Price saw 100 up then Dunlop got both off successive deliveries. In 42.2 overs it was all over and Ireland had their first tour win.

On this day Zimbabwe beat Worcestershire in Harare of the last ball of a 50 overs match with a team which contained seven of the players who had played in their President's XI against Ireland. This match was Mark Nulty's 12th and last match for Ireland. In all he had scored 384 runs at an average of 21.33
