With the rain restricting play to 3½ hours on the first day, there was no chance of a definite result to this game. Play was possible at 2:30 p.m. due to bright sun after heavy overnight rain. The wicket was very slow but as it was feared that the wicket would get difficult so Lowndes and Rait-Kerr scored fast. Lowndes left at 23. Green came in and runs continued to come briskly before Harris bowled Rait-Kerr. Green got a very fast 50 mostly by pulls and drives but when he had scored 59 in an hour he was caught at first slip. Accurate bowling, particularly by Macdonald, pinned the MCC batsmen down and eventually brought about their downfall. Green had left at 122 and the remaining seven wickets added only a further 51. Macdonald took 5-57 and was very unlucky not to have much better figures. Half-an-hour remained and Ireland scored 30-1, Bookman being caught after scoring 24 out of 25.

The second day's play did not commence until 3:30 p.m. because of further rain. There was very little life in the pitch but at 40 TJ Macdonald was caught in the slips from a bad shot. Ganly joined McVeagh and the fortunes of the visitors changed entirely. 27 were added before the Middlesex professional Power completely beat McVeagh with a slower ball. He had made 35 by sound methods. Thornton was bowled for two. Ganly then dominated the scoring, his driving being exceptionally strong. He completed his 50 in 75 minutes. He continued to force matters and 15 minutes later he was caught at deep mid-off for 60. His innings was most attractive and he scored a five and 8 4's, mostly in front of the wicket. The score was now 141-5. James Macdonald, who had been leaving the scoring to Ganly, opened up when joined by Kelly and so well did the pair bat that 115 runs were added in 70 minutes. 200 went up in less than 2½ hours, and the score was 256 before the partnership was broken when Macdonald hit his wicket. He was in for 80 minutes and his innings was neat and faultless. His runs came stylishly on both sides of the wicket. Kelly, undefeated with 68, also showed absolute mastery over the 8 bowlers tried by the MCC, his driving being particularly effective. Lambert was unable to bowl in this match due to neuritis.
