On the first day rain curtailed play to three hours, which was just sufficient to dismiss the MCC for 108. Rain had made the wicket wet and gave the bowlers little assistance. Lambert, coming on at 20, kept a usual length and varied his pace so cleverly that he took 6-40 in 35 overs with his off-breaks. Only Riches and Scott-Chad were at all happy against him. By lunch-time he had bowled 23 overs for 26 runs and four wickets. The first wicket actually did not fall until the score was 39, Fraser being bowled by Lambert. Those 10 wickets fell for 69. 50 went up in an hour and then wickets fell regularly at 57, 58, 68 (at which stage Riches was bowled in jumping out to drive Lambert). 5 wickets were down for 71 and 6 for 80. After lunch rain delayed resumption for 25 minutes and afterwards Scott-Chad and Cartwright were able to add 26 runs before the latter left to a great catch by wicket-keeper Kelly. The innings closed at 108 after which rain put a stop to any further play for the day. The Irish fielding was brilliant.

On the second day the Irish men continued to show their superiority and won easily at 6:40 p.m. by an innings and 10 runs. The morning was dull and play began 15 minutes late. The start was a bad one. Walton was caught at cover off a mishit with the total only five. Pollock and Parry, however, played steadily and when rain drove the players in at one o'clock the score was 58-1. Both were fortunate as each gave an easy chance. At 2:30 p.m. play was resumed and two overs yielded 15 runs. Then an extra ordinary change came over the game. At 73 Parry was caught at the wicket off Cartwright and at 75 Scott-Chad disposed of Pollock, Power and Lambert in the space of four balls. Kelly and Heaslip went out together and were very cautious at first and then began to use the long handle. At 3:30 p.m. the score was 120 and at 3:40 p.m. it was 150. Kelly hit a six into the Mound Stand but at 152 he was lbw to a ball from Richards which kept low. Heaslip carried on the good work while the remainder hit or got out and when the last wicket fell the visitors were 87 runs ahead. MCC sadly missed a good off-break bowler although Scott-Chad did very well to take 6-43 in 26 overs with his swingers.

It was after five o'clock when the MCC went in again and they made a deplorable start. Sarel and Fraser were both out with only two runs on the board, Sarel being run out and Fraser was caught off Aston. The pitch was getting a little faster now and Heaslip was bowling really well. Lambert could not find a length at first but when he changed from over to round the wicket he became deadly. The Irish fielding throughout was delightful. With Scott-Chad and Cartwright together the MCC looked as if they might save the match but after their dismissal the end came quickly. The innings, fitly enough, closed with a magnificent catch at short slip by Pollock which dismissed Clugston. It was a well-deserved victory in which the weak MCC side were eclipsed and the hope was expressed that stronger MCC's teams will in future be opposed to the Irishmen. Two Irishmen stood out, Lambert for his magnificent bowling (10-72 in 54.4 overs) and Heaslip for his fine all-round work.
