Ireland International Matches
Ireland drew with MCC
2 Day, Ormeau, 22 August 1924
Scorecard
Derek Scott

For this second game against MCC a somewhat different team had been selected. However, four cried off, AP Kelly, Heaslip, Sproule and Bookman. They were replaced by Dearden, Harris, Coskerry and McCausland.

There was no play on the first day due to rain. On the second morning Lambert won the toss and batted first on a wet and easy wicket. Pollock and Robinson opened and with the score at 18 the former was very well caught and bowled for eight. Finlay Jackson came in and was lucky not to be run out before he scored, but the fielder threw to the wrong end. This was a costly mistake because Robinson and Jackson settled down and another wicket did not fall until 69 runs were on the board, at which stage Robinson was bowled for a very useful 32. At 89 Jackson was caught behind the wicket off Enthoven and the same bowler quickly disposed of Millar, playing in what transpired to be his only match for Ireland. Walton and Lambert then added 110 for the fifth wicket before Walton's capital effort was brought to an end by a catch off Enthoven. When G.N.Kelly was out at 216-6, Lambert declared, his own score at this stage being 46 not out.

When MCC went in Pollock bowled Bennett before a run had been scored but Huband and Armitage took the score to 67 and then Kelly bowled Huband who had scored a very patient 14. The only other wicket to fall was that of Enthoven who was caught off Harris for 11. Armitage played magnificently for his 67 not out, his driving been marked by power and precision.
