Of the original team selected for this match only five in fact played. They were Lambert, Heaslip, Finlay Jackson, AP Kelly and AH Robinson. The team was then completed by JW Coskerry, W Allen, GN Kelly, D Kennedy, CE McCausland and M Sugden. In fact 21 players were approached before a team could be formed.

This game at Dundee was greatly interfered with by rain and on the second day there was no play at all. Robinson and Heaslip opened for Ireland and scored 26 before Hole had Heaslip very well caught by Kerr in the slips in his first over. Finlay Jackson came in and at lunch the score was 36-1. After lunch no play was possible for a further 1½ hours due to rain. The wicket was covered with tarpaulin and in the first over after the resumption Hole yorked Robinson for 11 and Lambert failed to score. AP Kelly was bowled for a "duck" at 49 and a further break of 80 minutes then arose. Subsequently matters went badly for Ireland and only Jackson's innings of 71 relieved uninteresting cricket. A hard chance when he was 49 was the only blemish on a fine innings. At 6 p.m. play ended due to further rain at which stage Ireland were 125-8.

On the second day no play at all was possible due to heavy rain falling at intervals. Ideal weather favoured the third day but the wicket was soft and treacherous. Ireland's remaining two wickets fell in 13 balls for the addition of nine runs, GN Kelly being undefeated with 20. Kerr and Walker started Scotland's innings. Allen soon had Kerr caught on the leg side and he quickly followed up his success by having Young caught by GN Kelly. At lunch half the side was out for 55 but afterwards Walker and Ford made a fair stand for the sixth wicket, Walker at this stage being particularly bright. Eventually he fell to Heaslip after scoring 46. The efforts of numbers 9, 10 and 11 gave Scotland a 44 run lead. Patterson and Anderson took the score to within four of the Irish total. Scobie, at number 11, batted very carefully and together with Patterson added 48 for the last wicket. Eventually, at 174, Sugden was put on and Patterson hit a four off his first ball only to be bowled by the second. Heaslip bowled 32 consecutive overs and took 5-67.

Two hours play remained and a draw was inevitable. In the Irish second innings five wickets went down for 70, 4 of them taken by Anderson. Then Lambert and McCausland give a bright display of hitting. Hole then got McCausland and bowled Sugden soon afterwards and it was left to Lambert and Coskerry to play out time in a somewhat unsatisfactory match
