This match, in aid of the Warrior's Day Fund, ended tragically late on the first afternoon. While Bob Lambert and Crawfurd were batting, a volley of shots was fired through the Nassau Street railings. A panic followed but when order was restored it was discovered that a young lady, a Miss KA Wright, who was a student of Trinity had been shot through the back. She was removed to hospital and died shortly afterwards. After a 15 minute break the cricket was resumed, but only for an over or two. The Provost of Trinity then came out and spoke to both captains and play was suspended for the day. When it became known that the young lady was dead, the game was abandoned.

The Irish team for this game included four new caps, and in fact in the case of three of them it proved to be their only match for Ireland.

On an easy wicket the Military batted first but the bowlers quickly assumed and maintained the upper hand and in 1½ hours the side was out for a meagre 108. The only redeeming feature of the batting side was the display of Major Walker. He opened the innings and was seventh out for an admirable 52, punctuated by clean driving. The Irish batsmen then murdered the Military's bowling. Kelly and Heaslip put on 58 for the first wicket before Taylor bowled Heaslip. Bob Lambert came in and helped Kelly to take the score to 91 before the wicket-keeper also fell to Taylor after hitting a bright 46 in 50 minutes. Power was soon out and this brought the brothers Lambert together. Bob had not been comfortable and S.D. scored much faster. Just before lunch they were parted, SD being caught and bowled by Lees. 139-4. No more wickets fell. Bob Lambert and Crawfurd quickly settled down to run getting at a good rate and the 200 went up in 2½ hours, Crawfurd reaching his 50 in an hour. Bowling changes were ineffective and when the unhappy ending came the score was 266-4, the pair having put on 127 for the fifth wicket. Bob Lambert batted two hours 10 minutes for his 84 not out which included 15 fours. Crawfurd was at the wicket just over an hour for his 63 not out which included 10 fours.
