In front of a packed Tribhuvan University ground - ICC commentator Andy Leonard estimated there were at least 30,000 people in and around the ground - Nepal and Oman played out a match fully deserving of a crowd of that size.

Batting first after they won the toss, Nepal found the going tricky in the first half of their innings, with only 60 on the board when Kushal Malla fell from the last ball of the tenth over, the fourth wicket to fall.

But Gulsan Jha cut loose, clubbing 54 from only 25 balls and sharing in a 78 run stand over the next seven overs with skipper Rohit Paudel. Paudel reached a half-century of his own before the innings was over, an unbeaten 52 as Nepal scored 184-6.

Much of Oman's reply was dominated by Kashyap Prajapati who scored 63 from 52 balls before he was dismissed in the 17th over. Oman carried on chipping away at their target and got themselves into a position where they needed eight from the last over with four wickets in hand.

That final over was bowled by Sandeep Lamichhane. Mohammad Nadeem ran a single from the first ball, but Ayaan Khan was caught from the second, with Shaheel Ahmed out from his first delivery. Fayyaz Butt kept out the hat-trick ball and ran a single, with six now needed from the final two balls.

Nadeem eased the preasure by hitting the penultimate ball for four, remaining on strike for the last ball with two runs needed. One run was scored from that last ball but Fayyaz Butt was run out as they tried for a second and the game was tied.

That led to a super over, with Oman batting first. Abinash Bohara bowled for Nepal but Naseem Khushi hit him for three sixes as Oman scored 20 from their over. Bilal Khan then had Kushal Bhurtel caught from the first ball of Nepal's super over and conceded just two runs from the next three balls. Kushal Malla hit a pair of fours from the last two balls but it was too little too late and Nepal lost the super over by ten runs.

A disappointing climax for the home team but the main job of qualifying for the World Cup had already been completed for both teams. Neither team has any fixtures confirmed for the rest of the year.
