Canada have qualified for their first T20 World Cup after beating Bermuda today at the National Stadium in Hamilton.

At one point it was looking unlikely that there'd be any play at all with Bermuda qualifying after tropical storm Philippe wiped out the whole day on Friday. Early on Saturday the weather was looking grim and the prospects of play were slim, with the opening game between Cayman Islands and Panama abandoned before it started.

Fortunately for the Canadians, the weather let up enough to allow the outfield to dry and the covers to come off, and - after a reduction to 18 overs - play finally began.

Canada captain Saad Bin Zafar won the toss and chose to bat first, with his team racking up 132-4 from their 18 overs. Navneet Dhaliwal top scored with 45 from 38 balls.

Bermuda never really got going in their reply, with only three batters reaching double figures. Kaleem Sana and Jeremy Gordon both took three wickets for not many runs - four and six respectively - and the home side were bowled out for 93, losing by 39 runs.

The result meant that Canada topped the table on net run rate and had secured their first appearance at a T20 World Cup, and their first appearance at any ICC global event since the 2011 Men's ODI World Cup.
