Jersey have become the second team to qualify for championship week at the European Championship T10 tournament, joining Spain and defending champions Netherlands XI in the seven team group.

They went through the round robin stage in Group B unbeaten. Croatia lost every game and were elminated before the play-offs, with Guernsey, Belgium and Bulgaria remaining in the tournament for the play-offs yesterday.

The play-offs started with an eliminator between Belgium and Bulgaria. Belgium batted first and a knock of 88 from 29 balls by Faisal Khaliq helped them post 202-2 from their 10 overs, then highest total in the brief history of this competition. Bulgaria batted out their 10 overs but made little effort to chase their mammoth target and scored 69-4, losing by 133 runs, a record winning margin in the tournament.

Jersey then qualified for the final in a game against Channel Island rivals Guernsey. Batting first they scored 164-4 from their ten overs, Charlie Brennan top scoring with 59 from 26 balls. Ben Fitchet scored 43 from 19 balls in the Guernsey reply but they fell short on 126-8, losing by 38 runs. Toby Britton took 3-11 for Jersey.

Guernsey had a second chance at making the Group B final when they took on Belgium in the next play-off game. Belgium batted first and scored 167-3 with skipper Ali Raza making their top score with 67 from 25 balls. Guernsey started their reply with an opnening partnership of 112 between Zak Damarell and Ben Fitchet but the nine overs they took to score it was too long for the T10 format. They finished on 124-1 - Fitchet unbeaten on 77 - and lost by 43 runs.

Belgium batted first in the final and after two big scores were kept to 105-9 from their 10 overs, Khurram Cheema top scoring with 43. Chuggy Perchard took 3-26 from his two overs. Josh Lawrenson then scored 68 from 24 balls to help Jersey chase down their target in only 6.4 overs, winning by 8 wickets and qualifying for championship week later in October.

Group C starts tomorrow in Cartama and will see Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Serbia and Sweden compete for a place in championship week.
