Scotland will only take two points into the Super Six after their batting line up let them down in what should have been a reasonably straightforward chase against Sri Lanka today in Bulawayo.

Sri Lanka were put into bat and whilst Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis both fell cheaply, Pathum Nissanka was scoring big at the other end. He shared in a 55 run partnership for the third wicket with Sadeera Samarawickrama and then a 44 run partnership for the fourth with Charith Asalanka.

The partnership with Asalanka ended when Nissanka was dismissed for 75, whilst Asalanka went on to score 63 from 65 balls as Sri Lanka reached 245 before their last wicket fell three balls from the end of their innings. Scotland used eight bowlers with Chris Greaves the pick of the bunch with 4-32. Mark Watt took 3-52.

Scotland kept up with the required rate but Sri Lanka kept taking wickets regualrly, reducing the Scots to 74-6. That Scotland got as close as they did owed much to Chris Greaves scoring an unbeaten 56 from 41 balls. Scotland were bowled out for 163 to lose by 82 runs.

Scotland's opening bat Matt Cross loses his middle stump to Lahiru Kumara for only 7 runs. (ICC)

Sri Lanka will therefore carry the maximum four points through to the Super Six stage, and they will begin their campaign on Friday against a buoyant Netherlands side. Scotland take two points through and their first Super Six match will be on Saturday against West Indies - the team that denied them a place at the 2019 World Cup.
