The Qualifier Play-Off came to a conclusion today in Windhoek with two matches that were dead rubbers after all places were confirmed yesterday.

UAE captain Muhammad Waseem chose to bat first against Jersey and shared in a partnership of exactly 100 with Vriitya Aravind for the second wicket after opener Aryansh Sharma was dismissed without scoring. The partnership ended when Waseem was out for 65.

Aravind went on to score 45 before he was out, but both were outdone by Asif Khan who continued his fine recent run of form with 82 from 86 balls. Aayan Afzal Khan scored an unbeaten 43 as UAE reached 284-7 from their 50 overs. Julius Sumerauer was the pick of the Jersey bowlers with 4-51.

Harrison Carlyon top scored with 85 from 89 balls in the Jersey reply, and following his dismissal Asa Tribe and Jonty Jenner put on 69 for the fourth wicket with Tribe scoring 40 and Jenner scoring 32. Karthik Meiyappan took 4-57 as Jersey were bowled out for 218, losing by 66 runs.

The win brought UAE level with USA on eight points, but USA's win over them in the head to head encounter meant that USA went home with the Qualfier Play-Off trophy.

The other match today saw Papua New Guinea play what. barring any changes in policy from the ICC, their last ODI for four years against Canada, who will replace them in whatever second tier ODI competition the ICC will run as part of qualification for the 2027 Men's World Cup.

Canada batted first after winning the toss and scored what for the United Club ground was a below par 218-8 from their 50 overs. Pargat Singh top scored for them with 66 whilst Aaron Johnson contributed 53. John Kariko took 4-45 for PNG.

PNG's reply never really got going with Jeremy Gordon taking the first four wickets to fall, including that of Tony Ura who scored 36 of the first 41 runs before he was the third man out. That was the highest score for PNG, and despite a cameo of 33 from Norman Vanua they were bowled out for 128 with Gordon coming back in to take the final two wickets, finishing with 6-43.

Gordon's figures were the best for Canada in ODIs, beating Austin Codrington's 20 year old record set in Canada's win over Bangladesh at the 2003 World Cup.

UAE and USA will now begin preparation for the qualifier itself, which will take place in Zimbabwe from 18 June to 9 July. There they will come up against the hosts as well as Nepal, Netherlands, Oman, Scotland, Sri Lanka, West Indies and either South Africa or Ireland.
