Canada can now afford to sit back and take things easy for their next three games in Challenge League A in Malaysia after they secured the title after a big win over Singapore today.

Batting first after winning the toss, openers Aaron Johnson and Pargat Singh scored 92 in the first 12 overs before Johnson was dismissed for 60 from 42 balls. Singh went on to top score with 83 before he was the fourth man out.

Contributions also came from Harsh Thaker (41) and Nikhil Dutta (53 not out) as the Canadians racked up 294-9 from their 50 overs. Singapore's 19 year old off-spinner Akshay Puri bowled well and took 5-32, his best List A bowling performance, but was largely unsupported.

In reply, only three of Singapore's batters were able to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 107, losing by 187 runs. Captain Saad bin Zafar took five wickets for just 18 runs, also his best List A bowling performance.

In the other match today Vanuatu were restricted to 188-9 from their 50 overs against hosts Malaysia, Junior Kaltapau top scoring with 64. Malaysia recovered from 59-4 to win by four wickets with 11.4 overs to spare thanks to an unbeaten 75 by captain Ahmed Faiz.

Canada have a day off tomorrow so can spend some time celebrating their success. Qatar will play Vanuatu whilst Denmark take on Singapore.
