DERRIAGHY are back in the Premier League after an absence of seven years, the Queensway club clinching the Section One title in emphatic style.

They had only to match remaining challengers Templepatrick’s result yesterday to confirm promotion but they went one better with a crushing 214 runs victory over Donaghcloney Mill, while the Ballyclare-based side lost to Muckamore.

Derriaghy, who received the league trophy from sponsor David Robinson when they returned to their clubhouse last night, crashed through their previous high total this season to finish in 273 for seven – without a single batsman reaching 50 – and then bowled out their hosts for 59 in just 20 overs to start the celebrations early.

They turned into double celebrations because their 3rd XI beat Armagh IV to win the Minor Qualifying Cup final at Dundrum.

In contrast, there was dual disappointment for Lisburn who, on the day they lost their first Irish Cup final, their 3rd XI were beaten by Instonians III by four runs in the Minor (Lindsay) Cup final at Drumaness.

Meanwhile, Cregagh became the first team to finish a Premier League season without a point since, ironically, Derriaghy, in 2005.
