Jersey are close to securing the CWC Challenge League B title after beating Italy today at Farmers Cricket Club.

Put into bat by Italian captain Gareth Berg, Jersey scored 349-5 from their 50 overs thanks to a pair of centuries from Nick Greenwood, who scored 141 from 126 balls, and Jonty Jenner, who scored an unbeaten 104 from just 73 balls.

Italy had a centurion in their reply, with Anthony Mosca scoring 105, but the next highest score was Justin Mosca’s 26. Chuggy Perchard and Dom Blampied both took three wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 204, losing by 145 runs.

In the day’s other game, Uganda batted first against tournament whipping boys Bermuda and scored 314-4 from their 50 overs, Ronak Patel top scoring with 121 before he retired hurt. Riazat Ali Shah (59) and Arnold Otwani (58) also contributed.

As is often the case, Kamau Leverock was a man alone in the Bermuda reply, scoring 58 as they were bowled out for 161. Terryn Fray’s 26 was the only other score over 20. Frank Akankwasa was the pick of the Ugandan bowlers, taking 5-19 in the 153 run win.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with Jersey playing Kenya and Uganda taking on Hong Kong. Uganda are the only team that could deny Jersey the tournament win. Jersey can make it simple by beating Kenya. If Jersey and Uganda both lose, Jersey win the tournament. If Jersey lose and Uganda win, it goes to net run rate with Uganda needing a big swing to go past the Channel Island side.
