The semi-finalists of the European Under-19 Division Two championship have been confirmed after the final day of round-robin play in Guernsey.

Norway secured their spot in the semis in their contest against fellow Scandinavians Sweden. Batting first they scored 285-5 with Chaudhary Akram’s 147 their top score, his second century of the tournament. Akram then led the way with the ball, taking 4-44 as Sweden were bowled out for 265, losing by 20 runs.

The Isle of Man saw Denmark score 271-7, with the 62 extras they conceded hardly helping matters. But they were able to chase down their target thanks to Dollin Jansen who was again the top scorer for the Manxmen with 109 as his team won by five wickets to secure their semi-final spot.

In the other group, Germany had the highest score of the day when they put 319-8 on the board against France, Niall Perfect top scoring with exactly 100. Perfect then took 5-25 as France were bowled out for 127. Heram Peroumal top scored for them with 51, a higher score than his team managed in either of their previous two games.

The teams who had confirmed their semi-final places on Saturday met in the other game today with Italy batting first and scoring 172, Charlie Forshaw taking 3-14. Fintan Ridgwick (56) and Charles Birch (90 not out) then led the Guernsey run chase as the home side won by eight wickets with 13 overs to spare.

Guernsey will now take on Norway with Isle of Man playing Italy in tomorrow’s semi-finals with the winners securing promotion to Division One. The losers will get another crack at promotion in the third place play-off on Thursday. There will also be play-offs for 5th place with Denmark playing France and Germany coming up against Sweden.
