Hosts Canada and Denmark continued their winning runs in CWC Challenge League A as they concluded their second leg campaigns with wins today in King City, Ontario.

Overnight rain caused some damp patches around the pitch and the clear up meant that Canada’s game against Vanuatu was reduced to a 38 over contest. Nicholas Kirton top scored with an unbeaten 108 as Canada batted first, ably assisted by Salman Nazar (55) and Ravinderpal Singh (42).

Canada’s total of 246-4 proved to be way beyond Vanuatu who were bundled out for just 42 in 17.3 overs with only one batter reaching double figures. Rommel Shahzad was the pick of the Canadian bowlers, taking four wickets for just eight runs in the 204 run win.

The match between Denmark and Malaysia lost only one over apiece, with Denmark batting first and scoring 242-6 from their 49 overs. Saif Ahmed top scored with an unbeaten 92 whilst Hamid Shah played another key innings with 75.

In Malaysia’s reply, Ahmad Faiz scored 57 and Virandeep Singh scored 52 but they were the only batters to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 151, losing by 91 runs. Nicolaj Laegsgaard was in fine form with the ball, taking six wickets for just six runs.

There is one more day’s play in this leg with today seeing Malaysia playing Qatar and Singapore taking on Vanuatu.
