Guernsey bounced back after their surprise loss against Austria with a big win over Slovenia today in Finland.

Batting first, only two Slovenian batters reached double figures as they were bundled out for 55, William Peatfield, Matthew Stokes and Luke Bichard all taking two wickets. Guernsey then raced to their target in just 5.3 overs to secure a nine wicket win and give a big boost to their net run rate.

Guernsey have now completed their four round-robin stage games and their fate is out of their hands. They now need Bulgaria to beat Austria heavily tomorrow if they are to make the final.

In the other Group 1 match, Luxembourg scored 164-6 against Bulgaria, Shiv Gill top scoring with 45. Rain reduced Bulgaria’s innings to nine overs with their target adjusted to 95 and they fell short, scoring 73-5 and losing by 21 runs.

The morning Group 2 match was also impacted by rain. Norway recovered from 71-6 to post 174-7 thanks to Ali Saleem’s unbeaten 53 and Usman Arif’s 44 from just 14 balls. Rain left Switzerland with an adjusted target of 38 from 5 overs but they could only manage 25 for the loss of one wicket, losing by 12 runs.

The afternoon Group 2 match saw the Czech Republic record their first win of the tournament. Batting first they scored 135-9, Sabawoon Davizi top scoring with 47 and Habib Khan taking 4-16 for Estonia. Sudesh Wickramasekera then took four wickets for 14 runs as Estonia were kept to 93-9, losing by 42 runs.

After today’s rest day, play resumes tomorrow. In addition to the aforementioned Group 1 clash between Austria and Bulgaria, that group will also feature Luxembourg against Slovenia. In Group 2, France will look to beat Estonia by a large enough margin to top the table on net run rate ahead of Norway whilst Czech Republic play Switzerland.
