Scotland have ended the latest leg of the ongoing CWC League 2 tournament with a dominant win over Nepal today in Glasgow.

Bowling first after they won the toss, spin led the way in their attack thanks to Mark Watt, who took 3-19, and Hamza Tahir, who took 4-26.

Aasif Shiekh had the only innings of note in Nepal’s total of 128, scoring 40 before he was the third man out. A brief flurry from Sandeep Lamichhane at number 10 where he scored 22 from 27 balls was very much against the run of play.

Lamichhane took the first wicket in the Scottish run chase, trapping Christopher McBride lbw for 10. This brought local boy Calum MacLeod to the crease and he played a typically brutal knock, smashing 64 from just 29 balls including three sixes, one of which landed on the roof of a building adjacent to the ground.

He was dismissed with just five runs needed and after a couple of overs when the only run scored was a leg b bye the eight wicket win was completed by a boundary by captain Richie Berrington, his predecessor finishing unbeaten on 44.

Scotland host the next tri-series in CWC League 2, playing the UAE and the USA in Aberdeen next month. Nepal’s next action in the event is provisionally scheduled for November when they will again play Scotland and Namibia, this time with the latter hosting.
