North East community cricketers NUSC, and KNCB (Netherlands) National HighPerformance Youth Squad, have accepted the UK National Fire Service cricketing challenge of a unique Twenty-20 cricket day to celebrate key workers.

Wednesday, July 27th will see the teams graciously hosted by Tynemouth Cricket Club, as part of their 150-year celebrations, and the UK Fire Services efforts to help servicemen return to representative sport in every corner of the United Kingdom in 2022.

Keith Joyce, Fire Service Cricket Secretary, was thrilled to see both NUSC and KNCB accept the cricketing challenge adding “we want to play something unique not just for our players, but for Tynemouth in such a special year. NUSC and KNCB have been incredibly supportive in developing the concept, and we look forward to this becoming an annual day between the sides”.

John D Holland, NUSC Director of Cricket, was pleased to see the day go ahead as “it has been a two-year shutdown for NUSC with the pandemic. Being back at cricket is a chance to say thank you to key workers, like the Fire Service, who have made it possible, and I hope it does, as Keith says, become an annual event”.

Subir Shrestha High-Performance Youth Operations Manager for the KNCB was delighted to accept the invitation “It is an honour for our young players to be asked to play. The work of the fire services, in every country, is inspirational before, during, and as we come out of the pandemic. There has been a lot of hard work with John and NUSC to coordinate flying in to play, but from the moment it was mentioned, KNCB was committed to being there on July 27th in Tynemouth”.
