It was a third win in as many matches for Jersey today in CWC Challenge League Group B action thanks to two excellent individual performances.

Jersey batted first after winning the toss and their total of 223-9 was led by a fine unbeaten 102 by Josh Lawrenson who came out to bat in the third over and held up an end whilst wickets fell around him. Dominic Blampied’s 37 was the only other contribution of note. Gareth Berg was the pick of the Italian bowlers, taking 4-25.

It was then the turn of Julius Sumerauer to put in a fine individual performance, taking six wickets for 32 runs as the Channel Islanders bowled Italy out for 135. Gian-Piero Meade’s 42 was their only contribution of note.

In the day’s other match there was a rather abject performance by Bermuda, who won the toss against hosts Uganda, chose to bat first, but could only manage 95, with extras being their top scorer. Uganda had little trouble chasing down their target, winning by 8 wickets in 17.5 overs, Simon Ssesazi scoring an unbeaten 50.

Tomorrow will be a rest day and the tournament resumes on Thursday with Italy taking on Kenya and Bermuda coming up against Hong Kong.
