Scotland’s day started with the announcement that after the most successful captaincy of any Scottish captain, Kyle Coetzer was stepping down from his position. Whilst he will remain available for selection, it gave the match against the UAE something of an end of term feel.

Scotland won the toss and chose to bat first and for the most part struggled against the UAE bowling attack. Number nine batter Safyaan Sharif was the top scorer with 30 as Scotland were bowled out for just 171. Kashif Daud was the pick of the UAE bowlers with 2-24.

UAE opener Chirag Suri was dismissed cheaply, but Muhammad Waseem and Vriitya Aravind put on 57 for the second wicket before Waseem was out for 36. Aravind reached 54 before he was dismissed by an unlikely source - Kyle Coetzer.

Coetzer, who had taken just one wicket in his almost 14 year ODI career and hadn’t bowled in the format since the 2015 World Cup, brought himself on and bowled seven overs, taking his bowling average from 203 to 110.

He was the ninth bowler used in the UAE run chase, but most were without success as the UAE chased down their required runs in 44.1 overs to win by five wickets. The tri-series concludes today with hosts USA taking on the UAE.
