The first of two CWC League 2 tri-series in Texas continued yesterday as the hosts took on the UAE at the Moosa Cricket Stadium.

UAE captain Ahmed Raza won the toss and chose to have first use of what looked like an excellent pitch for batting. Muhammad Waseem falling in the first over for a three ball duck suggested otherwise though, and there ended up only being two batters who went past 30.

Basil Hameed scored 32 whilst Chundangapoyil Rizwan top scored with 67 before he was bowled by Cameron Stevenson. It was Stevenson who was the pick of the USA bowlers, taking 2-34 with Ali Khan also taking two wickets as the UAE were restricted to 203-7.

The home team’s reply was built around a 102 run partnership for the second wicket between Sushant Modani and captain Monank Patel. The partnership ended when Patel became the first of three wickets for Ahmed Raza having scored 49.

Modani was the next man out for 70, but the lower middle order held on to complete the four wicket win with 5.1 overs to spare.

The tri-series will continue tomorrow when Scotland play the UAE and will conclude on Saturday with the second USA v UAE match.
