Lisburn have made it a three-way tie at the top of the Premier League after a thrilling four runs victory over Carrickfergus yesterday.

The game, originally scheduled for the same day as the Lord Mayor’s Show being staged at Wallace Park, was played over the full distance yesterday and it went to the very last ball when Callum Styles needed to hit Mark Berry to the boundary for a tie.

With skipper Michael Gilmour stranded at the other end, following a run-out from the penultimate ball, he could only watch on as Styles failed to make contact and Lisburn recorded their fourth league win of the season, the same as North Down and CIYMS after five of the 14 rounds.

Carrickfergus remain in the bottom four, but only by a hundredth of a run.

For the second day in a row, Carrick professional Jacques Snyman was the big wicket for Carrick’s opponents. On Saturday, he was dismissed for 90 in their defeat by Newbuildings in the first round of the Irish Cup and yesterday, he was fourth out, caught behind off Josh Manley for 81 with the visitors needing 31 from six and a half overs.

Two runs out and two wickets for Mark Berry got Lisburn over the line.

The home side had made 183 for nine with Glenn Halliday, for the second day in a row making valuable runs at the end and he received good support from David Simpson after Johnny Waite was out for 57.

It completed a good weekend for Lisburn who also made it through to the second round of the Irish Cup with victory over Malahide. They will be joined in the draw by Instonians and North Down after another day dominated by Leinster sides.
