The Jersey women's team went unbeaten in their quadrangular series campaign to win the tournament this weekend.

After a seven wicket win over hosts France on Thursday, they had two matches to play on Friday. Batting first against international newcomers Spain, their top three all fell for single figure scores but the middle order rallied to help them recover form 30-3 to score 175-4 from their 20 overs. Trinity Smith scored an unbeaten 59, the first half-century for Jersey in women's T20Is.

Mia Maguire also chipped in with an unbeaten 44, with her and Smith putting on 119 for the fifth wicket. The 38 runs in extras conceded by Spain also helped. In their reply Spain batted out their overs but were only able to score 108-6, losing by 67 runs.

They took on Austria in the afternoon, this time scoring 167-2 from their 20 overs. Charlie Miles joined Trinity Smith in the T20I half-century club as she top scored with 57 not out. She shared in a 100 run partnership for the opening wicket with Maria Da Rocha, who scored 46.

Jersey's bowlers kept the run rate in the Austrian reply down, and they could only manage 97-7 from their 20 overs, losing by 70 runs. Georgia Mallet was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-14.

Their series came to an end yesterday morning with a second match against hosts France. The home team batted first and scored 125-5 with Poppy McGeown scoring an unbeaten 50 to become the first French woman to make a T20I half-century.

Jersey lost Maria Da Rocha to the second ball of their reply but were otherwise largely untroubled. Trinity Smith scored her second T20I half-century in as many days, top scoring with 56 not out as the visitors completed a six wicket win with 3.2 overs to spare.

With four wins from four at that point, Jersey had already won the tournament, but there were still three matches to come as the other teams raced for second place.

Austria took on Spain in the afternoon, batting first after they were put in. Busra Uca was dismissed from the first ball of the match but Austria, aided by some wayward Spanish bowling that conceded 58 extras, including 36 wides, were able to score 165-6. Mahadewa Pathirannehelage was the top scorer other than extras with 49.

Spain batted out their overs in reply and only lost two wickets, but they were only able to score 117 and lost by 48 runs. Elspeth Fowler top scored for them with 44.

At this point Austria were in a clear second place as the only team with a win other than Jersey thanks to their two wins against Spain. For their part, the Spaniards were already out of the running, meaning that the only way Austria wouldn't finish second is if France were able to win both of their matches on the final day, which was today.

The home team took on Spain this morning and scored 163-5 from their 20 overs. Ganesh Pooja and Alix Brondin both top scored with 32, whilst Wania Malik was the pick of the Spanish bowlers with 3-18. Similarly to their match against Austria yesterday, Spain batted out their overs, this time only losing three wickets, but their 97 runs were way short of their target and they lost by 66 runs. Elspeth Fowler again top scored, this time with an unbeaten 42.

In the afternoon it was what was set to be a second place deciding game against Austria. An unbeaten 68 by Tara Britton helped them post 167-2 from their 20 overs. Only two of Austria's batters reached double figures in reply as they were bowled out for 108 to lose by 70 runs. Their score was only so respectable due to 42 extras conceded by France.

This gave the hosts second place on net run rate, with Austria finishing third and Spain finishing last. The series has no doubt been a learning experience for all teams and will have given France a boost in confidence after they struggled against much stronger experience in the European qualifier for the T20 World Cup last August.

Austria will be disappointed to have finished third, though it must be said that they were without reigning ICC Women's Associate Player of the Year Andrea-Mae Zepeda, who was in action today in the FairBreak Invitational, playing for the Tornadoes against the Barmy Army. She didn't bat or bowl in the game but did affect a run out.

Spain predictably struggled on their debut but they did improve as the tournament went on. They will no doubt have gained some valuable experience as Cricket España look to further develop women's cricket.

Jersey will obviously be the most pleased and will no doubt have hoped that their two wins over France will give them a chance at taking part in the next round off European qualification for the T20 World Cup.
