CIYMS bounced back from their opening day defeat with an impressive five wickets win against defending champions Waringstown at Belmont.

The Lawn side got their innings off to a steady start with an opening stand of 50 in ten overs between skipper Lee Nelson (25) and Adam Dennison (20), before both were dismissed by Nigel Jones (3-20), who also accounted for James McCollum cheaply.

A fourth wicket stand of 81 in 19 overs between Morgan Topping (58) and Jamie Gibson (48) laid a solid foundation, but the real acceleration at the back end of the innings never materialized, although a total of 229 was certainly a potentially challenging one.

An opening stand of 83 between John Matchett (46) and Ross Adair (41) certainly broke the back of the chase and thereafter the home side never relinquished control of the game.

Adair was particularly fluent in his 37-ball knock which included six fours, and his inclusion certainly adds another dimension to an already strong outfit.

Debutant Ross Allen (4-40) was the pick of the Waringstown attack, but the left-arm spinner couldn't prevent a home win.

Mark Adair (32) cleared the ropes twice in a responsible innings, while Nigel Jones (34*) and Keith Dudgeon (27*) ensured there were no late dramas as they clinched the win with an unbroken stand of 41 in the 48th over.

At the Castle Grounds, Cliftonville Academy won the battle of the promoted clubs as they ran out 74-run winners against Cregagh.

A solid batting display saw all the top six in the runs as CA posted 238 for 6, with Max Burton top scoring with 68.

He shared stands of 53 with Neil Cahill (27) for the first wicket and 66 in 13 overs for third wicket with David Reid (46).

Young New Zealander Shaun O'Leary cleared the ropes twice in a run-a-ball 29, while Matthew McCord went one better, hitting three sixes in a rapid 25.

Danny Cooper (4-45) was the pick of the Cregagh attack.

The Cregagh reply was a slow and steady one, with Cooper top-scoring with 40 as they reached 59 for 1 in the 20th over.

Craig Boultwood hit 25 but CA's attack was always on top, and three wickets for McCord (3-34) plus two apiece for South African spinner Niel Hornbuckle and Kane (2-23) ensured the relatively comfortable win.
