Ireland Men’s fixture list for 2022 released today, is a mixture of good and bad news, matches confirmed, but also matches postponed for another year, and two ‘Home’ games to be played ‘Away’.

In the good news section is the scheduling of two T20Is versus India for Malahide, although there is the caveat that these are ‘subject to licence’ meaning that they’re not quite over the line yet.

India at Malahide would, as on their last visit, be a huge attraction although perhaps not the money spinner that fixtures at a Test venue in England would be.

Hopefully the fans will get to roll in to watch at Malahide and also when Ireland play a further two T20Is versus South Africa in Bristol.

So while Bristol will have two Internationals, Bready will have none. There will however be for them the consolation of hosting senior Women’s games, with Australia and Pakistan due to visit.

The six matches versus New Zealand are split, with the ODIs at Malahide and the T20Is at Stormont. Those ODIs are of course part of the World Cup Super League but the games that were to be played versus the current WCSL Table-toppers Bangladesh have now been pushed back to 2023.

A similar fate has befallen the proposed tour to Zimbabwe now moved from April 2022 to ‘early 2023’.

Also pushed back to a date sometime in the future is the scheduled Test match and ODIs versus Afghanistan. Currently a five match T20Is series is being finalised with the promise of an announcement regarding dates and venues to be made ‘shortly’.
