Chirag Suri’s fine knock of 81 from 54 deliveries was enough to see the UAE go top of group A in the World Cup Qualifiers in a 24-run victory over Germany.

United Arab Emirates won the toss and decided to bat first, very quickly this became a good decision when opening pair Chirag Suri and Muhammed Waseem put on 83 for the first wicket stand before Waseem was bowled by Muslim Yar for a fine 50 from 30 deliveries.

Suri continued to anchor the innings whilst still hitting some lusty blows himself on his way to a score of 81 from 54 deliveries. The opener was also supported by Vriitya Aravind who contributed with a well-made 40 off 29 deliveries to propel UAE up to a score of 191 from their 20 overs.

Many of the Germany bowling figures were not pretty reading with despite picking up the first wicket Muslim Yar’s four overs went for 48 runs.

Germany would’ve had to score their highest T20i total which was previously 180 against Spain in March 2020.

They got off to a good start when Justin Broad and Vijayshankar Chikkannaiah put on 43 before the latter was removed advancing down the and being stumped by keeper Mohammed Boota.

Broad was the only German batsman to show any real resolve making a fine 62 off 42 deliveries, however once again it was middle order fragility which proved to be the problem. From 112/2 to 138/6 Germany lost wickets at the key times they would’ve been looking to kick on.

The clever bowling from opener Kashif Daud picked up 4 wickets which meant that any hopes and dreams of a record chase for Germany were quickly dashed.

Germany finished up losing by 24 runs, to fall to their second defeat in as many matches. For the UAE they take their second win of the group stages, with the side in a commanding position after victory over the favourites Ireland.
