A Sarfraz Ali match winning knock of 69 off 38 deliveries and a Junaid Aziz 5-fer made sure Bahrain started the World Cup qualifier campaign off in style.

Bahrain won the toss and decided to bowl, as Germany got off to a decent start with Justin Broad and Vijayshankar Chikkannaiah opening the batting.

However, what was a good start very quickly disappeared when Broad was removed first for 20. Wickets continued to fall around Chikkannaiah who went on to score a gutsy half century (50 off 43 deliveries).

That was the last of the contributors to the Germany scorecard with other than the skipper, Venkatraman Ganesan who scored 20, the remaining eight batsman only managed 11 runs between them.

Falling from 99/5 to 106 all out the damage was mostly carried out by Junaid Aziz who only needed ten balls to complete his five-wicket haul, ending up with the superb analysis of 5 for 5 off 1.4 overs.

Early wickets fell for Bahrain in the chase of 107, Muhammad Younis and Umer Imtiaz dismissed cheaply off some clever bowling from Dieter Klein.

But the doubt that built from the early couple of wickets quickly vanished when skipper Sarfraz Ali and fresh off his exploits with the ball Junaid Aziz built up a 57 run partnership before Aziz was trapped LBW for 13 off 28 deliveries in what was an important anchor role for his side.

Captain Ali must have been in some sort of hurry and batting on a pitch completely different to the rest of the players on display today. Whilst a couple more wickets fell around Ali, he continued to go through the gears hitting six 6s and four 4s in his innings of 69 off 38 deliveries.

Klein was the pick of the bowlers for Germany with figures of 2 for 15, however 106 runs was never going to be enough as Bahrain eased to a 6-wicket victory with 26 balls to spare.

Bahrain face Ireland in a tough test tomorrow whilst Germany face a UAE side brimming with confidence after their win over the Irish.
