When I first sat down to pick the Armagh team my initial thought was that this will easily be the weakest of the teams with only one Section 1 team from which to select. However when that team is Waringstown, you are never going to have a weak team.

Charlie McCrum (Laurelvale): Deserved more than 22 Ireland caps. He has been successful at every club. He's more All-Ireland medals than a Kerry footballer.

James Hall (Waringstown, photo right): Cream always rises to the top. Already has a Cup Final hundred under his belt and has represented his country at every age group. Just one more to go.

Francois Viljoen (Lurgan): He has so much time when batting. Lovely player to watch, technically correct and yet hits it hard off front and back foot.

Kyle McCallan (Waringstown): Showed in the World Cup against world class batsmen that he is the best off spinner in Ireland and possibly UK. Can bat a bit as well with 2 hundreds for Ireland.

Peter Hanna (Waringstown): When the team really need him to get runs he always delivers and that tells you all you need to know.

Craig Irwin (Lurgan): He's been a Pro for 10 years and still a very dangerous batsman. Really can hit a cricket ball.

Johnny Bushe (Waringstown): He is very busy batsman, running his singles and keeping the scoreboard ticking. The best wicket-keeper in the NCU.

Simon Harrison (Waringstown): He can bat, bowl and field. I'm not sure he realizes how good he is.

John Guy (Lurgan): This fella can bowl and quickly. Ripped through Donemana and Malahide in ISC. Injuries have ruined his career so far.

Gary Kidd (Waringstown): Trying to make go of it in England and I wish him well. If it doesn't work out we'll welcome him back to the NCU. Classical left arm spinner.

Simon Stokes (Waringstown): Will never, ever give you anything less than 100%. Will probably end up his clubs leading all time wicket taker.

That's my County Armagh team. Feel free to make any changes or dispute any decisions. If this team had been named a few years back Paul McCrum would have walked into it. But then so would Ross McCollum and Garfield Harrison and!!!no let's not go there. We'll stick to the here and now.

Lee Nelson would be 12th man and certainly the next on the list. The young man has had a great start to his career and the experience of Craig Irwin and Peter Hanna kept him out. Gareth Morrison and Neil Anderson are still young enough to get back to their best and out of loyalty to his club we will never know just how good Wayne Pearson could have been. I don't think it will be too long until Cameron Grieve makes this team either. I came very close to picking Stuart Kidd, as I always like bowlers with a bit of pace. If Johnny Bushe was unable to keep wickets, Bruce Topping isn't a bad replacement.
